2ND COMING

Stars Idris Elba – Second Coming, a pregnancy happens without conception. This miraculous event occurs in a regular family in contemporary Britain, complete with a mother, father and 11-year old boy. The parents are burnt out from their jobs and have had no time for intimacy, and the mother has not had any extramarital lovers. Having established this magic realism starting-point, the film develops into a fragmental, yet naturalistic, portrait of British black, middle-class family life.

GIRLHOOD

Marieme is a schoolgirl from the remote suburbs of Paris. Overburdened by her family circumstances, failures at school and the male dominance in the neighborhood, her life takes a new direction after meeting a gang of girls who introduce her to a new rebellious lifestyle and attitude. Marieme is anxious to sacrifice everything to gain their acceptance in the hope of finding both herself and a greater sense of freedom. Marieme’s transformation from a sober, annoyed child to a rebellious young woman in control of her life is an important notion which marks Girlhood as a non-judgmental study of black teens and social belonging.
