Former England player Dion Dublin has invented an instrument he claims will rival the popularity of the vuvuzela.
The craze for the South African instrument has reinvigorated Dublin’s efforts to market his own instrument, called ‘the dube’.
He made the cube-shaped drum four years ago and is convinced it will provide the next soundtrack for UK football.
South Africa’s vuvuzela industry is reported to be worth around £4.4m.

So, it is unsurprising Dion Dublin would like to be a big noise in this area. The former Sky Blues and England player first made the dube simply as a hollow wooden cube. Now he has developed it to include an internal microphone.
The dube comes in four different sizes and various finishes. Its inventor has managed to persuade musician Courtney Pine to use one and Warwickshire’s own Royal Shakespeare Company has used it in performances.
The sounds is said to be rather like a vuvuzela, suitably loud and buzzy to get on your nerves and gee on footballers.
However, one important thing stands in the way of Dion Dublin taking over the vuvuzela market: you cannot find his instrument in the shops. If it becomes widely available, we will let you know here.
