Soul gets Sony’s salute !

The  28th Sony awards ‘radio Oscars’ took place at a swanky London hotel on 10 May 2010 …and its with puffed out pecs that this correspondent can report success for two long time soul fans who via radio , are privileged to spread soul sounds  in the Uk and beyond.

Trevor Nelson was presented with a Gold lifetime achievement award for his 25 year career in radio which began with the then pirate station Kiss Fm and now includes 3 national network r n b / soul radio programmes for BBC Radio 1 , 1xtra & Radio 2.

As his soul producer at Radio 1 for 4 years, it gave me particular pride and pleasure to see him acknowledged for flying the soul flag, on the same evening that the station on which I now present the ‘A Touch of Soul’ show, BBC Radio Derby, won station  of the year too !
